Information Technology is defined as the science that comprises all aspects of computing, including data storage, sharing of information and communications. It is a rapidly growing area that is radically changing the world by making it possible to do new way business, providing entertainment and creating art.
The department of Information Technology was established in 2001 with an annual intake of 60, increased to 120 in 2017. Besides, an additional 20% under lateral entry scheme.
The B.Tech (Information Technology) program has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) since 2008.
The department is headed by Dr. K Srinivasa Reddy who has teaching experience of 13 years. There are 20 well experienced faculty members with M.Tech qualifications among which 3 members are currently pursuing Ph.D.
An advisory committee is functioning with experienced persons drawn from Industrial and Academic circles which, advises planning of academic matters, development of the laboratories and upgrading skills of the faculty. The members are:
- Dr. O B V Ramanaiah, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, Jawaharlal Technological University Hyderabad, Hyderabad.
- Dr. Ch Sudhakar, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Warangal.
- Mr. Lawrance Mohan Raj, DGM - Academic Initiative, IBM India Private limited, Hyderabad.
The department takes an active role in arranging expert lectures, guest lectures and Industrial visits for the benefit of students. Students are encouraged to take up industry oriented projects. The students are also motivated to present papers in student seminars, paper contests etc. at various conferences.
The department organizes student counseling by the members of faculty to monitor regularity and discipline among students. About 15 students are allotted to each teacher to guide, motivate and counsel them on academic and other matters. The teacher counselors regularly interact with the students and maintain registers on the progress of the students.
Class teachers are allotted to check student’s attendance and punctuality. A disciplinary committee comprising of the senior faculty is constituted for maintaining discipline and dress code of the students. Some faculty members are allotted roster duties to check the punctuality of both the staff and students.
Technical Association for Information Technology (TAIT) organizes regular co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for the all-round development of students. It organizes seminars, workshops, group discussions, etc. Memberships of Computer Society of India (CSI), Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), and Institute of Engineers (IE) student’s chapters give easy access to information on the latest trends and developments in the field of Computer Sciences and Information Technology.
Among the past three batches of students who ever have graduated so far, 63 students have been placed in reputed MNCs like Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra, Infosys Technologies Ltd, Robert Bosch, Computer Science Corporation, Convergys, Mphasis, Syntel etc. Some alumni have pursued higher studies in Engineering / Management in reputed Universities in India and abroad.
The department interacts with them and gets feedback with regard to academic, placements etc. matters. Their suggestions are taken into consideration in various developmental activities of the department. Alumni meet is organized every year and feedback is obtained. The comments of the alumni are considered for improving the quality of teaching and facilities in the department. The department constantly interacts with the alumni and seeks their advice on academic matters.
