Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI&ML) has transformed our lives. We can’t even think of a day when some sort of AI technology is not assisting us. AI&ML are redefining the way we live and work, allowing us to automate processes and enhance productivity. These new technologies create the need for skilled engineers with an understanding of their applications and intricacies.
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI&ML) is an emerging area of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE). The increasing importance of Artificial Intelligence motivated the department of Computer Science and Engineering to offer a B.Tech program in CSE (AI&ML) from the year 2020 with an intake of 60 and the current intake is 240 from the year 2023.
B.Tech program in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) successively for six consecutive terms in 2008, 2013, 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025 and M.Tech program in Computer Science and Engineering for three consecutive terms in 2019, 2022 and 2025. The period of NBA accreditation validity for both, B.Tech program in CSE in Tier-I (Washington Accord) and M.Tech program in CSE is till 30 June, 2028.
A B.Tech program in CSE (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of AI. Through learning the artificial intelligence principles, technologies, and applications to real-life problems, makes the students to create intelligent, ethical, and creative solutions in a variety of sectors.
Particularly the program covers, AI and machine learning courses with key subjects that synthesize topics from computer science, data, machine learning, and cognitive science. Students are equipped with solid foundations in the areas of Deep Learning, Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Robotics and Intelligent Systems, Algorithm Design and Analysis, gaining hands-on experience with computer programming.
The department has 14 academic laboratories like Object oriented programming with java laboratory, Programming for Problem Solving Laboratory, Operating Systems Laboratory, Data Structures Laboratory, Programming with Objects Laboratory, Web Systems Engineering Laboratory, Database Management Systems Laboratory, Object Oriented Software Engineering Laboratory, Applied Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Machine Learning Algorithms Laboratory, Data Mining and Warehousing Laboratory, Augment Reality and Virtual Reality Laboratory, Natural Language Processing Laboratory, Deep Learning Laboratory using. The infrastructure and lab facilities are upgraded from time to time and provide good practical learning and innovative environment for the students and researchers.
The students are nurtured with a variety of active learning activities including and not restricted to class room teaching, presentations, video lectures, MOOC courses, minor / honors courses, experiential learning (Exeed) and online courses by faculty in the institute and across the globe.
Skills and Competences:
Considering the potential expertise, a Computer Science and Engineering(Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) B.Tech graduate should have at least four or more of the following competences:
- understand, design, and implement intelligent systems using AI techniques such as machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision
- apply data-driven problem-solving methods including data collection, preprocessing, feature engineering, modelling, evaluation, and optimization
- develop, train, fine-tune, and deploy machine learning models using modern tools, frameworks, and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn)
- program efficiently in high-level languages commonly used in AI such as Python, R, and specialized libraries for scientific computing
- analyze large and complex datasets using statistical, computational, and visualization techniques
- design and implement end-to-end AI pipelines, including model development, MLOps, version control, automation, and cloud-based deployment
- build intelligent applications such as chatbots, recommendation systems, predictive analytics tools, and autonomous systems
- apply ethical, legal, and societal considerations in AI systems, with awareness of fairness, accountability, transparency, and privacy
- develop and integrate AI systems for real-world domains such as healthcare, finance, manufacturing, cybersecurity, and smart cities
- think critically, analytically, and creatively to solve complex problems using AI techniques
- collaborate across teams to scale AI adoption and improve best practices.
Soul of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (SAM) is a students’ body for conducting activities on career development, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills of students. It organizes Seminars, Quizs, Industrial Visits, Paper / Poster Presentations, Group Discussions, Guest Lectures, Career Guidance, Coding Games etc. under its auspices Student clubs
Student Chapters of various professional bodies like Computer Society of India (CSI), Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) provide unique opportunities for networking, mentoring and bonding over common interests.
With an objective of help students to pursue their hobbies and interests and to bring people together the student clubs are created at the Institute. Students of CSE (AI&ML) are initiated Engineering Clinics with an aim of nurturing coding challenges, open source contributions, hackathons, code-a-thons etc. Idea 2 Innovation (I2i club) focus on skillup activities on the steps in the process of idea to innovation. e-Designing and Marketing Club(e-DAM) focus on cutting edge technologies on UI/UX design, App development, Digital Marketing.
The department has well-equipped specialized laboratory facilities like Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, Programming in Logic, Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition, Augmented Reality (AR) / Virtual Reality (VR), Deep Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing, Web Application Development, Big Data and Analytics, and Image and Speech Processing etc. The infrastructure and lab facilities are upgraded from time to time and provide good practical learning and innovative environment for the students and researchers.
The students are encouraged to participate in Hackathons / Projects / Internships to improve their practical knowledge. The department also organizes regularly co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for the all-round development of students such as seminars, workshops, group discussions, etc. The department imparts specialized training to students to pursue their career in core and other IT related streams through various skill development activities.
