Handbook - Mechanical Engineering

Vision & Mission

VISION

The Department of Mechanical Engineering envisions value-based education, research, and development in the areas of Manufacturing and Computer Aided Engineering as an advanced center for Mechanical Engineering, producing graduates of world-class competence to face the challenges of global market with confidence, creating effective interface with various organizations.

The department's vision is pursued with regards to the Institute’s vision, holistic dimensions and their objectives via four value-creation chains:

- Competent professionals for global challenges
Students are developed into well-rounded mechanical engineers equipped with strong analytical abilities, technical skills, and practical competence across key domains such as thermal engineering, manufacturing systems, design engineering, automation, and materials engineering. With exposure to modern tools, simulations, and industry practices, they become capable of addressing complex engineering problems at national and global levels.

- Innovative and sustainable engineering solutions
Students are encouraged to apply creative thinking, engineering design methodologies, and advanced computational tools to generate innovative mechanical solutions. Emphasis is placed on energy efficiency, sustainable manufacturing, renewable energy technologies, and environmentally responsible engineering practices.

- Ethical responsibility and societal impact
The department fosters strong professional ethics, safety consciousness, and accountability in engineering decisions. Students learn to evaluate the long-term societal and environmental implications of mechanical systems-ensuring their work aligns with national priorities, community needs, and global ethical standards.

- Ability to work in multicultural environments
Mechanical engineering students are trained to collaborate effectively in diverse teams through project-based learning, industrial interactions, and interdisciplinary design challenges. Their ability to communicate, adapt, and integrate perspectives prepares them for international workplaces.

MISSION

The mission of the Mechanical Engineering Department is to prepare effective and responsible engineers for global requirements by providing quality education and to improve pedagogical methods employed in delivering the academic programs to the needs of the industry and changing world by conducting basic and applied research and to generate intellectual property.

Responsibly approaching the Institute’s role in the society and the significance of the created added-value, and taking into consideration the needs of stakeholders, the following missions are stipulated:

M1: Strong theoretical foundation and practical engineering excellence
The department delivers a well-structured curriculum that ensures mastery of core mechanical engineering principles such as solid mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, manufacturing technology, and design. Students apply this knowledge through laboratories, simulations, design challenges, internships, and hands-on projects.

M2: Experiential learning to address complex industrial and societal challenges
By integrating industry-oriented labs, modern CAE/CAD/CFD tools, mini-projects, field-based problem solving, and capstone projects, students gain real-world exposure and practical problem-solving skills. This experiential model strengthens their readiness to face rapidly evolving technological challenges.

M3: Promoting innovation, research culture, and emerging technologies
Students are encouraged to participate in innovative research related to automation, smart manufacturing, thermal systems, robotics, additive manufacturing, renewable energy, and material development.

M4: Entrepreneurship and community-centric engineering solutions
The department promotes entrepreneurial thinking by inspiring students to design affordable, scalable, and practical mechanical solutions that address community needs.Such as rural technologies, low-cost machinery, energy-efficient devices, and sustainable mobility systems.
