SAE INDIA 2026
The SAE Eighth Edition Bicycle Design Challenge (BDC) 2026 Final Event, organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) India Southern Section and hosted at TKM College of Engineering, Kollam, Kerala, on 11th & 12th April 2026, served as an excellent platform for promoting innovation, sustainability, and experiential learning among engineering students. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 33 teams representing institutions across India, where students demonstrated their creativity and technical expertise by designing eco-friendly and efficient bicycles, integrating principles of green technology and design thinking. Graced by eminent dignitaries, the program fostered a vibrant environment of learning, collaboration, and innovation, enabling participants to engage with industry experts, faculty, and mentors while applying scientific and mathematical concepts to real-world challenges and strengthening their interest in STEM education.
The competition was systematically structured to include the design and fabrication of human-powered bicycles based on defined rules, ergonomics, and performance benchmarks; technical evaluation through detailed presentations of concepts, calculations, and design justifications before expert jury panels; and dynamic performance assessments such as obstacle courses, endurance tests, and speed trials. A strong emphasis on sustainability encouraged the use of eco-friendly and lightweight materials, while dedicated tech talks and networking sessions provided valuable exposure to industry leaders, innovators, and startup founders. Participants were evaluated across multiple categories, including Overall Performance, Design, Presentation, Dynamic Performance, Maneuverability, and Special Awards, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of engineering excellence.
Highlighting a significant achievement, Team ChakraDhanvi 2.0, comprising students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Aeronautical Engineering, under the mentorship of Dr. B. Vijayakrishna, Assistant Professor, secured Third Place (Rank III) in the Best Maneuverability category with Team ID BDC2026004 and received a cash award of ₹5,000. This accomplishment reflects their exceptional creativity, strong engineering design capabilities, and commitment to sustainable solutions. Overall, the event effectively bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, reaffirming TKM College of Engineering’s dedication to nurturing innovation, teamwork, and sustainable development while shaping the innovators of tomorrow.
SAE INDIA 2025

The SAE Seventh Edition Bicycle Design Challenge (BDC) 2025 Final Event, organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) India Southern Section and hosted at Prathyusha Engineering College, Thiruvallur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on 27th & 28th September 2025, served as an excellent platform for promoting innovation, sustainability, and experiential learning among engineering students. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 23 teams representing institutions across India, where students demonstrated their creativity and technical expertise by designing eco-friendly and efficient bicycles, integrating principles of green technology and design thinking. Graced by eminent dignitaries, the program fostered a vibrant environment of learning, collaboration, and innovation, enabling participants to engage with industry experts, faculty, and mentors while applying scientific and mathematical concepts to real-world challenges and strengthening their interest in STEM education.

SAE Bicycle Design Competition 2023
Society of Automotive Engineers is an autonomous professional body comprising of automotive enthusiasts from prominent automotive, aerospace and allied industries, academia and students.
The SAEISS Bicycle Design Competition 2023 was conducted at PSNA College of Engineering and Technology in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, and was sponsored by M/s TI Cycles of India-Chennai. The department of Mechanical Engineering at IARE incepted “TEAM ENTANGLE” and “TEAM RAVEN”, a combination of Students who possess expertise in the manufacturing techniques necessary for building high-quality bicycles and a faculty to confront a daunting task as pioneers and trailblazers in the creation, production, and testing of an innovative, affordable mobility bicycle design to be a participant in the national level competition and co participated by premier universities and other renowned colleges across the nation. Following a successful endeavor, the team has attained the first prize in the best design category among 53 participating teams.
In 2015, the Department of Mechanical Engineering founded the SAE collegiate club, consisting of 60 students and 2 faculty advisors. The team utilized their prior experience in SAE SUPRA, Go-Kart, Efficycle, and mechatronics motion sensed excavator to commence the design and creation of an Innovative Bicycle. Throughout the project, the team engaged in several techno-commercial discussions.
The team was successful for identifying standard elements, fabricating various critical parts for innovative Bicycle and participated in the prestigious event in Tamilnadu. The significance of the lead team being equal participation by both genders and a complete corporate work structure. Further, the team successfully demonstrated integrity and professional skills in front of national judges, making it a stepping stone for knowledge transfer generations after a Bicycle with no hub and spokes with full suspension incorporated in the design as a mark of innovation. The competition was fully supported and sponsored by the Management and the Principal of IARE.
The dedication and remarkable efforts of the team have made the Bicycle Design Competition a synonymous event with IARE each year. This has set a high standard for the years to come.
SAE EFFI-CYCLE 2021
The SAE Northern Section Effi-cycle 2021 was a virtual event and was sponsored by M/s HONDA, M/s Maruti Suzuki and M/s ICAT. The department of Mechanical Engineering at IARE incepted “TEAM DECA” a combination of Students who possess expertise in the manufacturing techniques necessary for building an energy-efficient three-wheeled vehicle and a faculty to confront a daunting task as pioneers and trailblazers in the design of an innovative, regenerative energy-efficient three-wheeled vehicle to be a participant in the national level competition and co participated by premier universities and other renowned colleges across the nation. Following a successful endeavor, the team has attained the 10th position among 52 participating teams.
SAE collegiate club was started by the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the year 2015 with 60 students and 2 faculty advisors. The team has initiated the design and fabrication of the Innovative Bicycle with prior experience in SAE SUPRA, Go-Kart and mechatronics motion sensed excavator. In the process of building up of the Energy efficient three-wheeled vehicle, the team involved in various techno commercial discussions.
The team was successful for identifying standard elements, fabricating various critical parts for innovative energy efficient three-wheeled vehicle and participated in the prestigious event Virtual Mode. The significance of the lead team being equal participation by both genders and a complete corporate work structure. Further, the team successfully demonstrated integrity and professional skills in front of national judges, making it a stepping stone for knowledge transfer generations after Regeneration System Using Piezo-Electric Transducers incorporated in the design as a mark of innovation. The competition was fully supported and sponsored by the Management and the Principal of IARE.

SAE INDIA SUPRA 2018
Society of Automotive Engineers is an autonomous professional body comprising of automotive enthusiasts from prominent automotive, aerospace and allied industries, academia and students.
SAE SUPRA 2K15 was sponsored by Maruti Suzuki and held at Buddh International Circuit, Greater Noida, NCR, New Delhi. The department of Mechanical Engineering at IARE incepted team “ASWADHATHI”, a combination of automotive knowledge craving students and faculty to face a himalayan challenge as torch bearers and fore runners for design, manufacturing and testing of a full fledged student formula racing car to be a participant in the national level competition co participated by premier institutes from IIT’s and NIT’s and other renowned universities and colleges across the nation.
SAE collegiate club was started by the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the year 2015 with 60 students and 2 faculty advisors. The team has initiated the design and fabrication of the student formula racing car with prior experience in Go-Kart and mechatronics motion sensed excavator. In the process of builing up of the racing car, the team involved in various techno commercial discussions and conducted automotive workshops for knowledge abridgement.
The team was successful for indentifying standard elements, fabricating and casting various critical parts for a racing car and participated in the prestigeous event in New Delhi. The significance of the lead team being equal participation by both genders and a complete corporate work structure. Further, the team successfully demonstrated integrity and professional skills in front of national and international judges, making it a stepping stone for knowledge transfer generations after. A head inlet which is a norm for fighter aircrafts airintake was simulated and incorporated in the design as a mark of innovation. The competition was fully supported and sponsored by the Management and the Principal of IARE.
Today, SUPRA and IARE are synonymous in every year due to the initiation and tremendous work and commitment shown by the team and made it a bench mark for years to come.
13th NATIONAL STUDENT CONVENTION
The Society of Automotive Engineers, India, continuously strives to improve the quality of engineers graduating from various institutions and universities by conductiong several competitions for promoting various technical skills and instill leadership qualities. As a part of this vision, the SAEIndia Southern Section conducts yearly national level student convention to pecieve the quality improvement by a list of practical and theoretical competitions and faculty forums.
The 13th National Student Convention was conducted in three levels. Tier I was conducted in city level where students from prominent institutes of hyderabad participated. A group of 48 students from IARE cleared this level of events. The Tier II was conducted in Zonal Level, hosted combinedly by IARE and MLRITM and championed by Osmania University, where the challenge was to compete with students from all over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. IARE qualified in 16 events with a group of 37 honed contemprory students.
The final level was hosted by SAE and conducted by Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam, Tamil Nadu, where students from 6 different states competed in regular and surprise events. Our students participated with passion and educational integrity to win a overall 11 positions [5 – Ist Places, 3 – IInd Places, 3 – IIIrd Places] ranking to be one of the highest strike rate of competitin in the event.
The experiences of judges and a host of experienced faculty and industry patrons gained a overall engineering exposure for the students and a motivation for self improvement in areas of automotive engineering industry.
