Information Technology

Information technology is at the core of how you do your business and how your business model itself evolves.

The Department of Information Technology (IT) was established in the year 2001 with the B.Tech program in Information Technology, initially with an intake of 120. Over the years, the increasing global demand for IT professionals and the rapid expansion of digital technologies have driven the department to grow and diversify its academic offerings. In line with industry trends and emerging technological domains, the department introduced the B.Tech program in Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT) in the year 2020 with an intake of 180.

The department offers the following undergraduate programs:

  • B.Tech in Information Technology (IT)
  • B.Tech in Computer Science & Information Technology (CSIT)

The B.Tech program in Information Technology has been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for five consecutive terms in 2008, 2013, 2016, 2019, and 2023. The current NBA accreditation validity for the B.Tech program in IT under Tier-I (Washington Accord) extends till 30 June, 2026, reflecting the department’s commitment to high academic standards, continuous improvement, and outcome-based education.

The B.Tech in Information Technology at IARE equips students with strong conceptual knowledge and practical skills in both foundational and emerging areas of IT. The program focuses on the application of computing technologies to solve real-world problems, emphasizing the integration of software, systems, and digital infrastructure. Students gain expertise in key domains such as Web Technologies, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Data Analytics, and Enterprise IT Systems, along with hands-on experience in programming, system administration, and modern development tools. The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates to design, develop, and manage scalable IT solutions for business, industry and societal needs.

The department has 15 academic laboratories like Object oriented programming with java laboratory, Front-End Web Development Laboratory,Programming for Problem Solving Laboratory, Operating Systems Laboratory, Data Structures Laboratory, Programming with Objects Laboratory, Design and Analysis of Algorithms Laboratory, Web Systems Engineering Laboratory, Database Management Systems Laboratory, Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Cloud Application Development Laboratory, Computer System Internals and Linux Laboratory, Neural Computing and Deep learning Laboratory, Computing Things Laboratory, Security Protocols Laboratory. The infrastructure and lab facilities are upgraded from time to time and provide good practical learning and innovative environment for the students and researchers.

The students are nurtured with a variety of learning activities including and not restricted to class room teaching, presentations, video lectures, MOOC courses, minor / honours courses, experiential learning (ExL) and online courses by faculty in the institute and across the globe.

Skills and Competences:

Considering the potential expertise, a Civil Engineering B.Tech graduate should have at least four or more of the following competences:

  • Be aware of the tasks required for designing and developing technical solutions using modern IT methodologies and engineering practices.
  • Apply practical engineering methods to analyze, model, and implement IT-based systems effectively.
  • Program efficiently in a high-level language, demonstrating strong coding, debugging, and logical reasoning abilities.
  • Use software development methods and development tools, including version control, testing frameworks, and collaborative development environments.
  • Implement, configure, and troubleshoot operating systems, identifying root causes of system-level issues and ensuring stable IT environments.
  • Create and manage corporate IT systems, and design, develop, and operate decision-support systems for organizational needs.
  • Develop sustainable, resilient, and risk-aware software solutions that adapt to technological and environmental changes.
  • Think logically, creatively, systematically
  • Have well-based economic and project management knowledge

Technical Association for Information Technology (TAIT) organizes regular co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for the all-round development of students. It organizes seminars, workshops, group discussions, etc. Memberships of Computer Society of India (CSI), Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), and Institute of Engineers (IE) student’s chapters give easy access to information on the latest trends and developments in the field of Computer Sciences and Information Technology.

Students are encouraged to take up industry oriented projects, participate in hackathons and coding competitions.
